Community Energy in Ireland: Our Low-Carbon Future Together
Richard S O'Rourke (Kinetik NRG)
This paper outlines a proposal to the Irish government on how to maximise the benefit to Ireland and, in particular, Irish communities, from the introduction of a support scheme for renewable energy projects in Ireland, expected in 2017.
The proposal centrally recognises the generally poor way in which the power industry has engaged with the Irish public in the deployment of critical energy infrastructure, and embraces the concepts of Energy Citizens and Community Energy Projects as outlined in the Energy White Paper (2015). At the core of this proposal is the principle that communities closest to this infrastructure benefit the most from it.
